    It’s important to ensure you’ve prepared the areas the pets are allowed to minimise the opportunity for them to injure themselves, eat foreign objects such as batteries, food and sharp objects off the floor. Move things off low tables or benches, you may also want to be prepared as they may soil carpeted areas or possibly break or chew your cherished items. Roll up carpets and move fragile items or plants. 
2.  **Pet-proof your home – Outside** \- When pets are separated from their owners, they may become escape artists. It’s important to pup-proof your backyard and any outdoor areas such as patios, gardens, and balconies that the pet will have access to.
    Block or close off areas you don’t want pets to access, such as under the house. You’ll need to ensure your fencing is appropriate and adequate to safely contain the breeds of pet you are accepting. You should always scan your yard for any potentially dangerous things like garden tools, fertiliser, or [toxic plants.](https://www.madpaws.com.au/blog/poisonous-plants-cats/) If the Meet and Greet is at your house, show the Owner the lengths you have gone to ensure that their pet's stay is safe. Ask if the fence is high enough to prevent the animal running away. 
    
3.  **Multiple pets or have pets or children:** it is best to set aside an area where a pet can be safely contained if needed. While the pet may have behaved like an angel at the Meet and Greet with their owner nearby, pets can be unpredictable and it may be necessary to keep them separate from other animals or children.
    Ideally, a crate the pet is comfortable in or a separate safe penned area. Do not lock an animal in a room unattended. If you ever feel unsafe, call the Owner or Emergency contact to discuss the animal's behavior and submit a support ticket so we are aware of the incident.
