# Reducing the risk

When animals are in a new environment it can be stressful and they may chew and scratch objects. Ask the Owner about any issues with chewing or scratches [during the Meet & Greet](/articles/756cd43e-6b5f-4a15-9f0d-4e3522e90fef) before approving a booking. As a Sitter once you are aware of these behaviours, you can reduce the risk of damage occurring: 

-   **Don’t allow the pets near any fragile items, plants or furniture**
-   **Prevent the pet from having access to items that can be damaged by chewing and scratching**
-   **Provide plenty of toilet breaks if the pet is not toilet trained** (puppies should be taken out at least once an hour)
-   **Make sure the pet has plenty of exercise and stimulation**

**Submitting a Claim**

In the unfortunate event that something does happen and you have lodged an incident with us you must provide us with:

-   The **booking number**,
-   **A detailed description of the events** leading up to the Incident,
-   Written notice of the incident **no later than seven days after the end date** of the booking,
-   **All documentation available** to you (e.g. completed Meet and Greet form, receipts, invoices, veterinary notes from any veterinary examination),
-   **Contact details for the Veterinary** practice or Hospital the pet attended,  
-   **The Owner’s pet insurance** details (if applicable)
